Kirkland Concours d'Elegance

Snuggled up to the shores of Lake Washington with the majestic Olympic Mountain range as a backdrop, Carillon Point will host the 9th annual Kirkland Concours d' Elegance on Sunday September 11th, 2011.

Among car enthusiasts this family oriented event has quickly become recognized as one of the premier concours events in the country with participant vehicles selected from across the United States and Canada. All profits from this spectacular event benefit uncompensated children's care at Seattle Children's Hospital and Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, with more than one million dollars already donated to these needy recipients.

This esteemed 'contest of elegance' is judged by national and international experts. One award is judged and presented by thirteen Junior Judges, a group of 6th through 9th graders from various Lake Washington School District schools. These Junior Judges also gain an understanding and appreciation for automotive history, the restoration process, and the mechanics of a non-profit event. Nearly three hundred volunteers, most of whom return each year, make this event possible.

Set on the beautiful shores of Lake Washington, the Kirkland Concours is enjoyed by individuals of all ages. Consult the Concours website at www.kirklandconcours.com or the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce for additional details.

The Most Famous Car in the World

The Kirkland Concours is happy to annouce that what may very well be the most famous car in the world, the Aston Martin DB5, will be attending our Concours on September 11th. Well-known around the world by its original UK registration number, FMP 7B, this Aston Martin is one of only two, and the sole remaining, of the original ‘007’ DB5s as featured on screen with Sean Connery behind the wheel in the enormously popular Goldfinger and Thunberball movies. With its ‘rather interesting modifications’ originally conceived by Oscar-award-winning special effects expert, John Stears, this authentic Bond movie car is factory-fitted with the full complement of operational ‘Q-Branch’ gadgets, including machine guns, bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates, tracking device, removable roof panel, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen, all controlled from factory installed toggles and switches hidden in the center arm-rest.

1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Westchester Sedan

One of the two groups of “Full Classic Cars” to be exhibited in this year’s Concours will include American cars from the late 1930’s. A “Full ClassicTM” is defined by the Classic Car Club of America as a “Fine” or “Distinctive” automobile, American or foreign-built, produced between 1925 and 1948, although certain automobiles built prior to 1925 are accepted. Generally, a ClassicTM was high-priced when new and was built in limited quantities.

The Cord 810/812 is an iconic automobile as any produced in the last century. With less than 3,000 produced, an astonishing amount of attention has been lavished on this timeless classic. The front drive Cord turned heads when it was revealed at the auto shows in 1936, and continues to do so today.

Invited participants are grouped into classes and judged based on their rarity, quality, presence, and most of all their elegance. The unparalleled beauty of this luxurious setting offers our guests, and visitors, a chance to relax and enjoy some of the world's most rare and unique examples of rolling and floating art in the world.
